Patients: This Phase II study involved 108 patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme. (Only 104 were “analyzable.”) Patients were divided into two groups – 55 patients in Group A, and 53 patients in Group B.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of high-dose accelerated, hyperfractionated radiotherapy plus the chemotherapy drug bischloroethyl-nitrosourea (BCNU). Patients in Group B were administered more radiation than the patients in Group A.

Toxicity: Acute toxicities in Group B included: nausea and vomiting (grade 1-3), skin (grade 1-3), neutropenia (grade 1-4), thrombocytopenia grade (1-4), lung (grade 1-2, 4), neurological (grade 1-3), ototoxicity (grade 1), and hepatic (grade 1-2).

Results: Median survival for Group B was 11.0 months.
