Description:
Patients:
This study involved 28 patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. The median patient age was 65 years (range of 33-81) and 64% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the biologic therapy agent everolimus, an mTOR inhibitor that interferes with cancer cell and tumor growth.

Toxicities:
Grade 4 anemia and hypoxia (oxygen deprivation) were reported. Grade 3 lymphopenia and decreased liver enzymes were also reported.

Results:
The median progression-free survival was 3.8 months and median overall survival was 8.4 months.
