This study involved 48 patients with previously treated advanced non-small cell lung cancer. The median age of the group was 62 years and 52% were male.

Patients were treated with the biologic therapy called erlotinib, which is a small molecular inhibitor of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase, which is involved in cell growth and survival.

There was one treatment-related death due to pneumonia. Also, grade 3-4 anorexia, fatigue, and stomatitis (inflammation of the mouth) was reported.

The reported median overall survival was 7.5 months.

Researchers received funding from pharmaceutical companies Taiho Pharmaceuticals and Chugai Pharmaceuticals.
