Description:
Patients:
This phase II study involved 39 patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. The median patient age was 67 years and 85% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the biologic therapy agent sorafenib and the chemotherapy agent 5-fluorouracil.

Toxicities:
There was one death due to liver failure that was reported as being possibly related to treatment. Also, grade 4 liver toxicity and mucositis, as well as grade 3 hand-foot syndrome were reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 13.7 months.
