Description:
Patients:
This phase III study involved patients with locally advanced bladder cancer who had previously undergone surgery to treat their cancer. Patients were divided into 2 separate treatment groups. Group A consisted of 163 patients with a median age of 60.2 years; 75.5% were male. Group B had 164 patients with a median age of 60.7 years and 81.7% were male.

Treatment:
Patients in group A were treated with the chemotherapy agents cisplatin and methotrexate. Group B was treated with the chemotherapy agents methotrexate, vinblastine, epirubicin, and cisplatin.

Toxicities:
There were 4 treatment-related deaths reported for group A. Grade 4 anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, nausea/vomiting, and infection were also reported.

There was 1 treatment-related death reported for group B. Grade 4 anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, nausea/vomiting, and infection were also reported. Also, 24.7% of patients reported grade 3 alopecia.

Results:
The median overall survival for groups A and B were 47.1 and 51.8 months, respectively.
