Patients: This Phase II study involved a total of 48 patients with previously untreated advanced colorectal cancer. (Thirty-eight patients had colon cancer and ten patients had rectal cancer.)

Treatment: The treatment consisted of the chemotherapy drugs capecitabine (xeloda) and oxaliplatin (eloxatin). (Thirteen patients received higher doses than 35 patients.)

Toxicity: One patient who was hospitalized with diarrhea/dehydration later developed sepsis and died. Toxicities included grade 4 deep vein thrombosis and grade 3 diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dehydration, hypotension, neutropenia, fever, anemia, thrombocytopenia, hand-foot syndrome, neuropathy, fatigue, and mucositis.

Results: Overall survival was not discussed.
