Description:
Patients:
This phase III study involved 82 hepatocellular carcinoma patients with a median age of 67 years; 85.4% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the chemotherapy agent zinostatin stimalamer.

Toxicities:
The most severe adverse effects were of grade 4 and included thrombocytopenia. Elevated liver enzymes, fever, and abdominal pain were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 22.3 months.
