Description:
Patients:
This study involved previously untreated metastatic colorectal cancer patients who were divided into separate treatment groups. Group A consisted of 185 patients with a median age of 61.8 years; 54% were male. Group B had 194 patients with a median age of 60.8 years and 62% male.

Treatment:
Patients in group A were treated with the chemotherapy agents fluorouracil, folinic acid, and oxaliplatin.

Patients in group B were treated with the chemotherapy agents fluorouracil, folinic acid, and oxaliplatin, and the biologic therapy agent cetuximab.

Toxicities:
The most severe treatment-related toxicity in group A was of grade 4. Grade 3-4 toxicities included neutropenia, fatigue, and sensory neuropathy (nerve disorders).

The most severe treatment-related toxicity in group B was of grade 4. Grade 3-4 toxicities included neutropenia, diarrhea, and rash.

Results:
The median overall survival for group A and B was 20.4 and 19.7 months, respectively.
