Description:
Patients:
This phase II study involved 62 malignant pleural mesothelioma patients who had not previously received chemotherapy. The median patient age was 66 years and 85.5% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the chemotherapy agents carboplatin and pemetrexed.

Toxicities:
The most severe treatment-related toxicities were of grade 4 and included grade 3-4 neutropenia and thrombocytopenia. Grade 3 nausea, vomiting, and fatigue were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 14 months.
