Description:
Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 44 patients with unresectable or metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma. The median patient age was 62.5 years and 82% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the biologic therapy agent called linifanib, an inhibitor of VEGF and PDGF receptor kinases that works to stop blood flow to the tumors and kill cancer cells.

Toxicities:
There was 1 treatment-related death due to brain hemorrhage. Grade 3-4 fatigue, high blood pressure, and skin rash were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 9.7 months.
