Description:
Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 37 previously treated patients with transitional cell carcinoma of the urothelial tract (a form of bladder cancer). The median patient age was 63 years and 28 were males.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the biological therapy agent called everolimus, which is an inhibitor of the mTOR protein and interferes with cancer cell growth.

Toxicities:
Treatment-related deaths due to heart attack and cerebral bleeding were reported. Grade 4 fatigue, thrombocytopenia, and nausea/vomiting were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 3.3 months. The median progression-free survival was 2 months.
