Description:
Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 17 metastatic melanoma patients. The median patient age was 59 years and 70.6% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the biologic therapy agent bortezomib (a proteasome inhibitor that causes cell death), and the chemotherapy agents paclitaxel and carboplatin.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities were of grade 4 and included neutropenia and pulmonary embolism. Grade 3-4 leukopenia and joint pain were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 7 months.
