Description:
Patients:
This phase 2 study involved metastatic breast cancer patients who were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A consisted of 76 women with a median age of 51.7 years. Group B had 74 women with a median age of 55.4 years.

Treatment:
Patients in group A were treated with the chemotherapy agent called nab-paclitaxel.

Patients in group B were treated with the chemotherapy agent docetaxel.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities in group A were grade 4 neutropenia (in 7% of patients). Grade 3 sensory neuropathy (nerve disorders) was reported by 21% of patients.

The most severe toxicities in group B were grade 4 neutropenia (in 75% of patients). Grade 3 sensory neuropathy (nerve disorders) was reported by 12% of patients.

Results:
The median overall survival for groups A and B was 27.7 and 26.6 months, respectively.
