Description:
Patients:
This phase 2 study involved metastatic melanoma patients who were divided into two separate groups. Group A had 34 previously treated patients with a median age of 60 years and 67.6% male. Group B consisted of 39 patients who had not previously received chemotherapy; the median patient age was 59 years and 59% were male.

Treatment:
Patients in group A and in group B were treated with the chemotherapy agents nab-paclitaxel and carboplatin.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities in group A were of grade 4 and included grade 3-4 neutropenia and leukopenia. Anemia, fatigue, nausea, and nerve disorders were also reported.

There was one treatment-related death in group B due to infection and diarrhea. Fatigue, nausea, and nerve disorders were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival for groups A and B was 10.9 and 11.1 months, respectively.
