Description:
Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 25 female metastatic triple negative breast cancer (negative for mutations in estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and HER2) patients who had received prior chemotherapy. The average patient age was 53 years.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the chemotherapy agent irinotecan and the biologic therapy agent UCN-01, which is a kinase inhibitor that interferes with cancer cell growth.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities were of grade 4 and included anemia, neutropenia, and liver toxicity. Grade 3 diarrhea and nausea/vomiting were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 11.3 months.
