Patients: This Phase I trial involved 71 patients with advanced colorectal cancer.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of two chemotherapy drugs raltitrexed (Tomudex) and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU, adrucil).

Toxicity: One patient developed neutropenic fever and dehydration and had a cardiac arrest and died. Other toxicities included grade 4 neutropenia (64% of patients had grade 3-4 neutropenia), grade 3-4 leukopenia, and grade 4 mucosistis.

Results: Median survival was 11.7 months

Support: One of the study authors is affiliated with AstraZeneca. AstraZeneca markets raltitrexed (Tomudex). AstraZeneca also supplied the raltitrexed for the study.
