Description:
Patients:
This phase 3 study involved 283 advanced hepatocellular carcinoma patients who were previously treated with sorafenib. The median patient age was 64 years and 83% were male.

Treatment:
Patients received biologic therapy with ramucirumab, a monoclonal antibody specific to the VEGFR-2 that inhibits cancer cell growth.

Toxicities:
Treatment-related deaths due to respiratory distress, kidney failure, and bleeding/hemorrhage were reported. Grade 4 decreased appetite and grade 3 high blood pressure were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 9.2 months.
