Description:
Patients: This Phase II study involved 271 treated patients with metastatic breast cancer. Patients were divided into two groups – Group AT was comprised of 136 patients; Group AC was comprised of 135 patients.

Treatment: Group AC patients were treated with doxorubicin (adriamycin) and cyclophosphamide (cytoxan).

Toxicity: One toxic death (netropenic sepsis) occurred in the AC group. Other toxicities included neutropenia (grade 4), and grade 3-4 infection, thrombocytopenia, nausea/vomiting, stomatitis, CHF, and LVEF.

Results: The median survival for the “AC patients” was 20.5 months.
