Description:
Patients: This Phase II study involved 51 patients with advanced (stage IIIB or IV) non-small cell lung cancer. The median age of the patients was 64.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of the administration of two drugs topotecan (hycamtin) and gemcitabine (gemzar).

Toxicity: Grade 3 and 4 toxicities included neutropenia (53% of patients), anemia, thrombocytopenia, asthenia, and gastrointestinal disorders. Other toxicities included pneumonia, shortness of breath, fever, dyspnea, pulmonary toxicity, myocardial infarction, and pneumonitis.

Results: Median overall survival was 7.6 months.
