Patients: This Phase II study involved 50 patients with glioblastoma multiforme who had experienced disease recurrence or progression after surgery and standard radiotherapy, and had not been administered chemotherapy before.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of two chemotherapy drugs cisplatin (platinol) and temozolomide (temodar).

Toxicity: Toxicities included one irreversible heart failure, one pulmonary embolism leading to death, and one arterial embolism with leg amputation. Grade 3-4 toxicities included: neutropenia and thrombocytopenia. Grade 3 toxicities included: anemia, neurotoxicity, ototoxicity.

Results: Median survival time was 11.2 months.
