Patients: This Phase I study involved 26 patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma or malignant melanoma; nineteen men and seven women. The median age was 59. The majority of patients had received other therapies. Of the 26 patients, 19 had renal cell carcinoma.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of interleukin-12 and interferon alpha-2b.

Toxicity: Grade 3-4 toxicities included hematologic, elevated enzymes, fatigue, and fever.

Results: Median survival was 13.8 months.

Support: The study was supported by a grant from Schering-Plough and one of the authors had acted as a consultant for this company. Schering-Plough markets interferon alpha-2b.
