Patients: This Phase II study involved 22 patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma; 11 men and 11 women. Eighteen had undergone prior nephrectomy. Patients were divided into two groups Group 1 of 8 patients and Group 2 of 14 patients.

Treatment: The treatment for both groups consisted of a new angiogenesis inhibitor Neovastat. (Group 1 received the drug at a lower dose than Group 2.)

Toxicity: There was one grade 3 event, peripheral edema.

Results: For patients in Group 2 (the higher dose) the median survival was 16.3 months versus 7.1 months for the patients in Group 1.
