Patients: This Phase II trial involved 16 patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma; 14 men and 2 women. The median age was 56.5. Twelve patients had undergone prior nephrectomy.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of administration of the chemotherapy drug, temozolomide (temodar) and interferon-alpha.

Toxicity: Grade 3-4 toxicities included hematologic, dyspnea, emesis, fatigue and myalgias.

Results: The median survival was 16 months with one minor response.
