Patients: This Phase II study involved 32 evaluable patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma; 24 men and 8 women. The median age was 58 years. Thirty-two patients had undergone previous surgery (most likely nephrectomy). None of the patients had undergone prior chemotherapy.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of the chemotherapy drug, pemetrexed.

Toxicity: There were four drug related deaths (pancytopenia, sepsis, kidney failure, and enterocolitis).

Results: Median time to progression (when the cancers grew and/or returned) was 5.7 months. Overall survival was not discussed.
