Patients: This Phase II study involved 14 women with metastatic breast cancer. Median age was 58.5. Prior treatments included endocrine (13 patients), chemotherapy (12 patients), and radiation therapy (14 patients).

Treatment: The treatment consisted of RC-160, an analogue of somatostatin. One of the functions of somatostatin is to suppress angiogenesis (growth of new blood vessels) and cell proliferation.

Toxicity: Grade 2 toxicities included diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, fatigue, headache, constipation, and abdominal pain.

Results: There were no objective tumor responses and the cancers of all patients continued growing within three months. Overall survival was not discussed.
