Patients: This Phase II study involved 14 patients with hormone refractory metastatic prostate cancer. Median age was 66 years and the median PSA (prior to hormone therapy) was 258. Metastatic sites included bone and lymph nodes.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of administration of the drug Caelyx (liposomal doxorubicin).

Toxicity: One patient experienced grade 4 neutropenia and grade 3 sepsis and died from presumed pulmonary embolus. Other grade 3-4 toxicities included mucositis and skin toxicity.

Results: No patient had an objective response in measurable disease. Overall survival was not discussed.
