Patients: This Phase II study involved 25 women with recurrent ovarian cancer. The median age was 61, and all patients had received at least one treatment before this study.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of one chemotherapeutic agent: capecitabine.

Toxicity: There was one treatment related death. Grade 3-4 toxicities included: GI toxicities, neutropenia, nausea/vomiting, sepsis, and dermatologic toxicities.

Results: Median survival was reported as "21.1+ months." The authors concluded, "capecitabine is associated with unacceptable toxicities (gastrointestinal, nausea/vomiting, and dermatological) at the approved dose of 2500 mg/m2/day and exhibits minimal activity in patients with platinum-sensitive ovarian cancer."
