Description:
Patients: This Phase II trial involved 33 patients with malignant gliomas including: 27 with glioblastoma multiforme, 4 with anaplastic astrocytoma, and 2 with anaplastic oligodendroglioma. Twenty-three were men, and ten were women. The average age was 49 years.

Treatment: The treatment involved a radiolabeled agent - (131)I-labeled anti-tenascin murine 81C6 monoclonal antibody that was administered directly into a surgically created resection cavity. 29 patients also received radiation therapy and 28 patients also received adjuvant chemotherapy.

Toxicity: Grade 4 hematologic toxicities were observed in patients that received a higher whole-body radiologic dosage. Grade 3-4 irreversible neurologic toxicity was also observed.

Results: The overall survival was 18.2 months (79 weeks) for the glioblastoma patients.
