Patients: This Phase III study involved a total of 363 patients with metastatic melanoma who were divided into two groups: Group A of 180 patients and Group B of 183 patients. For Group A the median age was 50.

Treatment: The treatment for Group A consisted of two chemotherapy agents (Dacarbazine and Cisplatin) and immunotherapy (interferon-alpha-2b).

Toxicity: Grade 4 toxicities for this group included: vomiting, neuropathy, and shortness of breath. Grade 3 toxicities included cardiovascular dysfunction, hyper or hypotension, various gastrointestinal toxicities, pulmonary, fever, arthralgia, myalgia, and hematologic.

Results: The median overall survival was 9 months.
