Patients: This Phase III study involved 201 patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer who were randomly assigned into two groups. Group B had 85 men and 15 women with a median age of 57 years.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of radiotherapy and three chemotherapeutic agents: cisplatin, vinoelbrine and etoposide.

Toxicity: In Group B, there were ten reported treatment-related deaths. Other grade 3-4 toxicities included neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, esophagitis, nausea/vomiting, pneumonitis, and infection.

Results: For Group B, the median overall survival was 16.3 months. There was an observed trend in decreased relapse rate and increased survival for Group B (concurrent treatment) patients after 2 years.
