Description:
Patients: This Phase II study involved 26 women with metastatic breast cancer. The mean age was 47.3 years. Metastatic sites included bone, liver, and lung. All women had prior anthracycline adjuvant chemotherapy before this study.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of two chemotherapeutic agents: gemcitabine and paclitaxel.

Toxicity: Grade 3-4 toxicities included neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia, nausea/vomiting, and allergies.

Results: The median overall survival was 14.5 months. The authors concluded, "gemcitabine plus paclitaxel combination is an effective and safe regimen in anthracycline pretreated metastatic breast cancer."
