Patients: This Phase II study involved 45 patients (28 men, 17 women, average age 65.1 years) with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer. All patients did not respond to platinum-based chemotherapy that was administered before the study.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of two chemotherapeutic agents: gemcitabine and tegaflur/uracil.

Toxicity: Grade 3-4 toxicities included anemia, leukopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, and fatigue.

Results: The median overall survival was 13.2 months. The authors concluded, "gemcitabine plus tegaflu/uracil is an effective salvage regimen for NSCLC patients who have failed previous chemotherapy."
