Description:
Patients: This phase II study involved 129 women with epithelial ovarian cancer of FIGO stages II B to IV. The mean age was 59 years, and all had previously undergone surgical treatment.

Treatment: Patients were infused with the two chemotherapy drugs paclitael and carboplatin.

Toxicity: Grade 4 toxicities in these women: 13 had anaemia, 16 had leucopenia, 2 had thrombopenia, and 1 had constipation. The most common grade 3 toxicities were alopecia (occurring in 74.4% of the patients), and anaemia (in 45.7% of patients). Grade 1 and 2 toxicities included alopecia, neuropathy, anorexia, diarrhea, nausea, leukopenia, dyspnea, skin changes, pain and infection.

Results: Forty-three patients ended treatment early because of toxic events. The median overall survival was 45 months. Median progression free survival was 22 months.
