Description:
Patients: This phase II study involved 40 patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. There were 23 men and 17 women. The median age was 65, ranging from 35-84 years. All had previously been treated with a oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy but progressed.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the chemotherapy drugs oxaliplatin and capecitabine and the biological therapy cetuximab. Cetuximab is an antibody that binds to a molecule called the epidermal growth factor receptor.

Toxicity: One instance of grade 4 diarrhea was reported. Grade 3 adverse events included neutropenia, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, neurotoxicity, fatigue, rash and allergic reaction.

Results: The median overall survival was 10.7 months from the start of this treatment.
