Description:
Patients: This study involved 74 patients with advanced colorectal cancer. All had previously been treated with the chemotherapy drugs irinotecan, oxaliplatin, and/or fluorouracil. The median age was 63, ranging from 23 to 78 years old.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the biological therapy cetuximab and the chemotherapy drug irinotecan.

Toxicity: One patient died from neutropenic infection, but the researchers did not link this death with a treatment-related toxicity. Grade 3-4 diarrhea was the most common toxicity (occurring in 10% or less of patients). Other grade 3-4 toxicities included skin and nail problems, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, neutropenia, and an allergic (anaphylactic) reaction.

Results: The median overall survival was 8.9 months.
