Patients: This phase II study involved 23 women with recurrent or persistent platinum-refractory ovarian, fallopian tube or primary peritoneal cancer. The median age was 58, ranging from 43 to 85 years of age.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the chemotherapy drugs gemcitabine and topotecan.

Toxicity: Grade 4 neutropenia was reported in one patient. Grade 3 neutropenia was reported in 8 patients and 3 patients had grade 3 febrile neutropenia. Other grade 3 toxicities were nausea, pain, and thrombocytopenia.

Results: The median overall survival was 12.6 months.
