Patients: This phase I-II study involved 31 patients with metastatic, castration-resistant prostate cancer. The median age was 68, ranging from 50 to 81 years of age. Most (81%) had bone metastases.

Treatment: These patients were treated with the chemotherapy drug docetaxel and the biological therapy atrasentan.

Toxicity: Grade 3 and 4 toxicities included neutropenia, pain, and peripheral edema. Grade 4 febrile neutropenia was reported in the patients receiving the highest dose of treatment.

Results: The median overall survival was 17.6 months.
