Patients: This phase 2 study involved 63 women with stage 3 ovarian cancer. The median age was 59, ranging from 34 to 80 years old.

Treatment: Patients were treated with chemotherapy drugs. Cisplatin and paclitaxel were injected into the peritoneal cavity, and paclitaxel and pegylated liposomal doxorubicin were given intravenously (injected into a vein).

Toxicity: Five patients died from treatment-related causes. These deaths were from aspiration pneumonia, cardiac ischemia, peritonitis, and sepsis. About half of patients experienced at lease one serious (grade 4 or 5) toxicity, most commonly these affected their immune and/or blood cells (neutropenia, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, etc.).

Results: The median overall survival was 51.6 months (4.3 years).
