Patients: This phase 2 study involved 40 patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer. The median age was 66, ranging from 33 to 75 years of age. The majority (26) were men.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the chemotherapy drugs paclitaxel and gemcitabine.

Toxicity: Grade 4 leucopenia and pneumonitis were reported in one patient each and grade 4 neutropenia was reported in four patients. Grade 3 toxicities were leucopenia, neutropenia, febrile neutropenia (reported in 2 patients), anemia, thrombocytopenia, and pneumonitis.

Results: The median overall survival was 11.9 months.
