Patients: This phase 2 study involved 36 patients with unresectable metastatic colorectal cancer. The median age was 65, ranging from 42 to 73 years of age. There were 28 men and 8 women in this study.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the chemotherapy drugs oxaliplatin, irinotecan and capecitabine.

Toxicity: One patient died from sepsis, and three patients were hospitalized for febrile neutropenia and diarrhea. Grade 3 and 4 neutropenia occurred in 30% of patients in the study. Other grade 3 and 4 toxicities, occurring in less than 10% of patients, included nausea, vomiting, thrombocytopenia, and peripheral neurotoxicity.

Results: The median overall survival was 17.9 months.
