Description:

Patients:
This phase II study involved 23 patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who had a median age of 68 years and 91.3% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the chemotherapy agent called S-1.

Toxicities:
The highest toxicity grade reported was grade 4. Grade 3/4 toxicities included decreased hemoglobin, lymphopenia, thrombocytopenia, and fatigue.

Results:
The median overall survival was 16.6 months and the median progression-free survival was 3.7 months.
