Description:

Patients: This study involved 12 patients with WHO grade IV glioblastoma multiforme. The average age was 50.5 years, ranging from 35-63. Eight of the patients had recurrent disease.

Treatment: All patients were treated with a formalin-fixed tumor vaccine. This type of vaccine is made with tumor tissue removed during surgery and an adjuvant which increases how the immune system to responds to the tumor.

Toxicity: Grade 1 erythema, induration, and swelling of the injection site occurred, as did low-grade fever and fatigue.

Results: The median overall survival was 10.7 months.
