Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 18 patients with recurrent malignant gliomas. Of the 18 patients, 12 patients had recurrent glioblastoma multiforme, 5 patients had recurrent anaplastic astrocytoma, and 1 patient had recurrent gliosarcoma.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of administration of the chemotherapy drug, irinotecan.

Toxicity: Toxicities included grade 3-4 diarrhea, grade 5 infection (fatal) in 1 patient, grade 4 neutropenia, and grade 3 respiratory failure and increased intracranial pressure.

Results: Median overall survival for all patients was 10.4 months.
