Description:

Patients: This Phase III trial involved a total of 259 patients with metastatic or relapsed non-small cell lung cancer. Patients were divided into two groups: Group A comprised of 133 patients, and Group B comprised of 126 patients.

Treatment: Group A patients were administered two drugs, vinorelbine (navelbine) and cisplatin (platinol)- (NP). Group B patients were administered three drugs – vinorelbine, ifosfamide, and cisplatin.

Toxicity: There were 4 toxic deaths in Group A. Other toxicities in this group included hematological (grade 3-4), nausea and vomiting (grade 3-4), elevation of transaminases (grade 3-4), and alopecia.

Results: Median survival in Group A was 10.0 months.
