Description:

Patients:
This study involved non-small cell lung cancer patients who were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A had 20 patients with an average age of 59.6 years; 75% were male. Group B had 20 patients with an average age of 60.4 years; 70% were male.

Treatment:
Patients in group A received chemotherapy with S-1 and cisplatin, and radiation therapy.

Patients in group B received chemotherapy with cisplatin and radiation therapy.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities in groups A were of grade 4 and included nausea and leucopenia. Grade 3 neutropenia, anorexia, and constipation were also reported.

The most severe toxicities in groups B were of grade 4 and included thrombocytopenia and leucopenia. Grade 3 neutropenia, fatigue, and constipation were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival rates for groups A and B were 33 and 24 months, respectively.
