Description:

Patients:
This phase II study involved 51 malignant mesothelioma patients, 70% of whom were male. The median patient age was 69 years.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the biologic therapy agent sorafenib, which inhibits the receptor for the VEGF protein and subsequently inhibits blood supply to the tumor.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicity was grade 4 fatigue. Grade 3 rash and shortness of breath were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 9.7 months.
