Description:

Patients:
This study involved 26 metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer patients who had been previously treated with docetaxel. The median patient age was 67.0 years.

Treatment:
Patients received chemotherapy with temozolomide and biologic therapy with veliparib, an inhibitor of the PARP protein that interferes with cancer cell growth.

Toxicities:
There was one reported treatment-related death due to hepatorenal syndrome (liver and kidney toxicity). Grade 3-4 colitis, fatigue, neutropenia, and anemia were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 9.1 months.
