Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 11 previously treated, castration-resistant, metastatic prostate cancer patients. The median patient age was 61 years.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the biologic therapy agent called temsirolimus, an mTOR protein inhibitor that interferes with cancer cell growth.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities were grade 4 hypophosphatemia (electrolyte imbalance) and brain hemorrhage. Grade 3 fatigue and muscle weakness were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 8.8 months.
