Description:

Patients: This Phase III study involved 608 patients with advanced (stage IIIB or IV) non-small-cell lung cancer. Patients were divided into two groups. Group A contained 302 patients and Group B contained 306 patients.

Treatment: For patients in Group B, the treatment consisted of two drugs – paclitxel (taxol) and carboplatin (paraplatin). In addition, 42% of patients received follow-up radiotherapy and 24% received another chemotherapy regimen.

Toxicity: Grade 3-4 toxicities in Group B included hematological, infections, and peripheral neuropathy. Other toxicities included arthralgia/myalgia, asthenia, ototoxicity, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, and renal toxicity.

Results: Median survival was 8.2 months for patients in Group B.
