Description:

Patients: This Phase II trial involved a total of 60 patients with metastatic breast cancer. Patients were divided into three groups (Groups 1-3). Group 1 had 26 patients, group 2 had 24 patients, and group 3 had 10 patients.

Treatment: Each of the three groups received the same three chemotherapy drugs – vinorelbine (navelbine) methotrexate and fluorouracil (5-FU, adrucil). However, the groups received them in different doses and schedules.

Toxicity: The toxicity for patients in group 3 included grade 1-4 hematological toxicities, infection, nausea, and neurotoxicity. Other toxicities (less than grade 4) included: alopecia, constipation, pain, diarrhea, local irritation, neurotoxicity, and stomatitis.

Results: Median survival time was 8 months for patients in group 3.
